Tougher penalties for assaulting federal officers
This bill would raise penalties for assaulting, resisting, or impeding federal officers or employees. For standard cases, fines could reach $200,000, and jail could be up to 2 or 10 years. It would add explosives, as defined in section 841, to covered acts. For cases with weapons, explosives, or injuries, fines could reach $500,000, even if other law caps fines lower. Prison could be up to 25 years, starting upon enactment.
