Up to $1,000 credit for tutoring teachers

If enacted, eligible teachers who tutor outside school hours could claim a tax credit up to $1,000 per year. Teachers would get $500 after providing at least 150 hours of qualified tutoring. Tutoring beyond 150 hours would add up to $500 more, reaching the $1,000 max at 200 hours. To qualify, a teacher must be state-certified and employed at a preschool, elementary, or secondary school (public or private). Tutoring must serve students at the same type of school and focus on math, reading and writing, or science, when school is not in session. On a joint return, each spouse who qualifies could claim their own credit. The credit would apply for tax years 2026 through 2032.
