HR4674119th Congress

Baby Hygiene Tax Relief Act

Sponsored By: Representative Horsford

Introduced

Summary

Prohibits duties on baby hygiene items under IEEPA. This bill would stop the President from imposing tariffs or duties under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act on a specific list of infant-care goods. It would terminate any IEEPA-based duties already in effect and render substantially similar duties imposed under other authorities without legal effect. Items covered include diapers, diaper liners, diaper cream, diaper bags, baby wipes, baby soap and shampoo, changing tables, baby bathtubs, and baby towels.

Block emergency tariffs on baby supplies

If enacted, this bill would stop the President from putting emergency import duties on many baby supplies. Covered items include diapers, diaper liners, diaper cream, diaper bags, changing tables, baby wipes, baby soap, baby shampoo, baby bathtubs, and baby towels. It would also end any such duties already in place when the bill takes effect. It would void similar presidential duties under other laws on these items. If passed, this could lower import costs and reduce price pressures for families and stores.
