HR4962119th Congress

Toll of Tariffs Act of 2025

Sponsored By: Representative Scholten

Introduced

Summary

This bill would require the U.S. International Trade Commission to study the inflationary impact of tariffs imposed by Executive orders since January 20, 2025. The study must report estimated effects using the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers and Bureau of Labor Statistics-defined non-urban price-change measures and deliver results to Congress within 60 days of enactment.

  • Households: Would give consumers clearer data on how those tariffs changed prices in urban and non-urban areas, helping public debate about cost pressures.
  • Rural communities: Ensures BLS-style non-urban price measures are included so price changes outside cities are tracked alongside the CPI-U.
  • Congress and policymakers: Requires a focused, 60-day report with estimated impacts on CPI-U and non-urban measures to inform oversight and future tariff decisions.
