Hiring Preference for Veterans and Americans With Disabilities Act
Sponsored By: Representative Evans (CO)
Introduced
Summary
Allows states and localities to give hiring preference to veterans and people with disabilities for election workers. It would also let jurisdictions prefer nonresident military spouses and dependents and bar refusing to hire them solely because they lack a local residence. Preferences are optional and do not create new federal funding, enforcement, or programs. The measure clarifies which hiring practices are allowed for administering elections and does not change other employment standards.

Election job preference for veterans, disabled, military spouses
If enacted, state and local election offices could give hiring preference to veterans, people with disabilities, and some military spouses or dependents. The preference would be optional. Offices would not be able to refuse a nonresident military spouse or dependent just because they live outside the area. A disability would mean an impairment that substantially limits a major life activity. These changes would take effect upon enactment.
