Summary

Sexual assault exam access at VA
The bill would require each VA hospital and VA urgent care to have at least one sexual assault nurse examiner. If VA cannot hire one, a qualified provider for sexual assault forensic exams would be required instead. After an exam, the provider would have to verbally refer you to VA mental health care; if the wait is over 30 days, the referral could go to a Veterans Care Agreement provider. VA would have to do this without reducing other patient care and would use federal definitions for who counts and what exams qualify. These rules would take effect upon enactment.
