Home School Graduation Recognition Act
Sponsored By: Representative Harris (NC)
Passed House
Summary
Recognizes home-schooled students as high school graduates for federal higher education purposes. The bill would amend Section 484(d) of the Higher Education Act of 1965 by changing the subsection heading and adding a paragraph that defines a high school graduate to include a student who completed secondary education in a home school setting that State law treats as a home school or private school. That student is considered a high school graduate for purposes of this title.

Homeschool grads counted for college aid
This bill would treat many homeschool students as high school graduates for federal college rules. You would qualify if you finished secondary school at home and your state treats your home school as a home or private school. If enacted, you would be treated as a high school graduate for programs under the Higher Education Act. That would open eligibility for federal student aid, like grants and loans. This recognition would apply only to rules under the Higher Education Act.
