Protective barriers for bus drivers

This bill would require public transit agencies and other recipients to install a floor-to-ceiling barrier around the driver workstation on certain new buses. It would start two years after enactment and apply to new fixed-route buses 30 feet or longer with a useful life of 10 years or more bought with Federal funds, except funds from section 5311. The barrier would fully enclose the workstation, stop unwanted people, fluids, and objects from entering, and must not block the driver's exterior lines of sight. A recipient could waive the rule for a specific bus only if the labor organization representing the plurality of frontline workers (or a contractor's frontline workforce) agrees and the recipient certifies that waiver for that bus.
