PFAS cleanup payments tax-free for homeowners

If enacted, this bill would exclude from an individuals taxable income reimbursements received for remediation of PFAS contamination. The exclusion would apply to reimbursements in taxable years beginning after December 31, 2020. The bill would also create a special one-year window starting on the date of enactment to file a claim for a refund or credit when the normal time limit would otherwise expire first. Any refund or credit under that rule would cover only amounts tied to the PFAS exclusion and must be claimed before the one-year window ends.
