Sponsored By: Representative Rep. Downing, Troy [R-MT-2]
Introduced
Summary
Releases three Montana wilderness study areas so they can be managed under regular land plans to improve public access, wildlife habitat, and wildfire mitigation. Hoodoo and Wales Creek protections removed
This bill would remove about 11,380 acres at Hoodoo Mountain and about 11,580 acres at Wales Creek from wilderness study status under FLPMA. If enacted, those lands would no longer be subject to section 603(c) of FLPMA and would be managed under the applicable BLM land management plans adopted under section 202 (43 U.S.C. 1712). Middle Fork Judith protections removed
This bill would remove about 81,000 acres in the Middle Fork Judith Wilderness Study Area from the Montana Wilderness Study Act. If enacted, those lands would no longer be subject to section 3(a) of that Act. They would be managed under the most recent Forest Service land and resource management plan adopted under the planning law (16 U.S.C. 1604). The change would take effect upon enactment and could change allowed uses, public access, wildlife habitat protections, and wildfire mitigation and recreation opportunities near those lands.
