2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.
New Calumet National Heritage Area
If enacted, the bill would designate the Calumet National Heritage Area in parts of Indiana and Illinois. The area would be defined by the map on page 25 of the April 14, 2018 feasibility study (as subsequently modified) and would include Lake, Porter, and LaPorte Counties. The Calumet Heritage Partnership would be named the local coordinating entity. That entity would have to submit a proposed management plan to the Secretary of the Interior for approval within 3 years of enactment. The designation would help local planning, projects, and tourism but would not create a broad federal cash benefit for all households.
Federal assistance ends for Calumet
If enacted, the bill would end the Secretary of the Interior's authority under section 6001(g)(4) of the John D. Dingell, Jr. Conservation, Management, and Recreation Act to provide assistance for the Calumet National Heritage Area. That authority would stop on the date that is 15 years after enactment. After that date, local groups and projects would no longer be eligible for that specific federal assistance.
