To amend the Act of August 9, 1955 (commonly known as the “Long-Term Leasing Act”), to authorize leases of up to 99 years for land in the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation and land held in trust for the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah), and for other purposes

Passed House
Summary
Expands long-term leasing eligibility to two Wampanoag land categories. It amends the 1955 Long-Term Leasing Act to add the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Reservation and land held in trust for the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) to the list of lands that may be leased under that law. The bill’s title mentions authorization for leases up to 99 years, but the operative text in this section simply expands the list of eligible lands without changing other terms or enforcement in the Act.

Long-term leases for Wampanoag tribal land
If enacted, this bill would let the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head (Aquinnah) offer long-term leases on their tribal lands. Leases would be allowed for up to 99 years under the Long-Term Leasing Act. Households and businesses would be able to apply for leases on those lands under the Act’s existing procedures. It would not change other rules or provide new funding or tax breaks. The change would take effect upon enactment.
