Ban on federal benefits for immigrants

This bill would bar any person defined as an "alien" under immigration law from receiving any "Federal public benefit" as the bill defines it. It would explicitly add "cash assistance" to the list of federal public benefits. It would repeal several 1996 welfare-law provisions that previously set immigrant eligibility definitions and exceptions. If enacted, immigrant households could lose cash, health, nutrition, or housing help they now get and agencies would have to apply the new ineligibility rule.
