Bill Overview
Analyzed Economic Effects
2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 0 mixed.
No federal benefits in sanctuary areas
This bill would give Section 4 of Executive Order 14287 the force of law. If enacted, people who are not lawfully present and who live in designated sanctuary jurisdictions would be denied certain federal benefits covered by that section. The provision does not specify an effective date in the text provided.
Cut federal funding for in-state tuition
This bill would bar a State or public college from receiving any Federal financial assistance for the fiscal year after a year the Secretary of Education finds them ineligible. An institution would be ineligible if it charges an alien not lawfully present tuition at a rate equal to or less than the in-state rate for citizen residents, or if it provides State-based financial aid to such an alien. A State would be ineligible if it allows aliens not lawfully present to pay in-state tuition at public colleges. The bill uses existing statutory definitions for federal assistance, institution of higher education, and State.
