More staffing for aviation weather units
If enacted, the bill would require the National Weather Service and the Federal Aviation Administration to coordinate on staffing for Center Weather Service Units. They would include the exclusive bargaining representatives for FAA air traffic control specialists and certain certified NWS employees in that planning. They would make sure each Center Weather Service Unit has enough staff to help keep flights safe and efficient. The Secretary would have to send Congress a report on implementing this staffing requirement within 180 days of enactment and then every year. Reports would go to the House Committees on Transportation and Infrastructure and on Science, Space, and Technology, and to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
