New SBA office for Native businesses

If enacted, the bill would create an Office of Native American Affairs inside the Small Business Administration. The office would be led by an Assistant Administrator appointed by and reporting to the SBA Administrator. The Assistant Administrator must know Native American cultures and have experience giving culturally tailored small business help. The office would provide or help arrange grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, training, counseling, workshops, supplier events, and help accessing SBA loans, contracting, and capital programs for Indian Tribes, Native Hawaiian Organizations, and qualifying nonprofits. The office would run or assist Tribal consultations, recommend its annual budget, and report yearly to Congress on metrics like clients served, Tribal consultations, and trainings held. The authority created by the section would end seven years after enactment.
