Tax-free AmeriCorps education awards

You would not have to include an AmeriCorps national service educational award in your taxable income. If you used the award to pay or discharge student loans, the discharged amount would also not be counted as income. These exclusions would apply to amounts received and to loan discharges in taxable years ending after the bill's enactment. The bill would only change tax treatment and would not create new AmeriCorps funding or programs.
