Supporting the designation of September 22 as "National Veterans Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day" and recognizing the Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Flag.
Sponsored By: Representative Garbarino
Introduced
Summary
Designates the Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Flag as the Nation's symbol to raise awareness of military and veteran suicide. This bill would also name September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and designate September 22 as National Veterans Suicide Awareness and Remembrance Day. It would commit to remembering service members and veterans who died by suicide and to supporting their families. The resolution calls for the SAR Flag to be posted above federal buildings where an American Flag and a POW/MIA Flag fly, year-round. It notes military personnel and veterans face higher suicide risk, citing over 100,000 veteran deaths by suicide since 2001 and that post-9/11 veterans are at greatest risk.
