Recognition and remembrance of Indian boarding school survivors. This House resolution designates the week of September 30 as National Orange Shirt Week or National Week of Remembrance to honor people forced to attend Indian boarding schools and to acknowledge victims and survivors. Its extensive whereas clauses trace federal assimilation policies from the Indian Civilization Fund Act of 1819 through church-run boarding schools into the 1960s, document forced removals, unmarked graves, cultural and health harms, and ongoing intergenerational trauma.
