More tribal access to grid grants
If enacted, Indian Tribes could apply for and receive grants for grid resilience and distributed generation projects. States would still need to file the standard yearly plan. Each year a Tribe could choose to submit a plan to run projects itself or the standard plan to award grants to eligible entities. If enacted, Tribes and tribal-owned recipients would be exempt from matching or cost-sharing for these grants.
Tribes eligible for Energy Department loans
If enacted, projects led by Indian Tribes on, near, or off Indian land could be eligible for Energy Department loans and loan guarantees. At an applicant's request, the Department could use appropriated funds to pay for financial and technical assessments. No more than $500,000 could be used for assessments for any one application, and use of this money would be subject to appropriations.
