National AI awareness and education campaign
If enacted, the Secretary of Commerce would set up a national public awareness and education campaign about artificial intelligence. It would begin not later than 180 days after enactment and would end five years after enactment. The campaign would produce multilingual, mobile-friendly materials and distribute core messages by TV, radio, and internet. It would explain where AI is used, its limits, how to spot deepfakes, ways to protect personal data, and do targeted outreach to seniors and small businesses. The Secretary would track key performance indicators and report to Congress one year after starting and every year after.
No new funding for AI campaign
If enacted, the bill would not authorize any new federal appropriations to carry out the AI campaign. That means Congress could not provide additional, dedicated money specifically for this program. This restriction could limit how much the campaign can do or how long it can run.
