Paid training for school food staff
If enacted, the bill would require school food service training programs to be held during regular, paid work hours. Training should be offered in person when appropriate and include hands-on, experiential learning. Training must be free to food service staff. If a session is scheduled outside regular paid hours, employers would need to tell staff why. Employers would need to consult staff to pick a time that is minimally disruptive. Attending staff would have to be paid at their regular rate, including overtime where applicable. Employers could not penalize or discriminate against staff who cannot attend. These rules would take effect on enactment and would not replace other federal, state, or local labor laws.
