Great Lakes fish marking program
This bill would create a Great Lakes Mass Marking Program inside the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. The Director would be able to buy tagging equipment, fish tags, data systems, and hire staff. The Director would work with Federal, State, and Tribal fish agencies and the Great Lakes Fishery Commission. The bill would authorize $5 million each year for fiscal years 2026 through 2030. Program data would be shared with fish management agencies to track stocking and management outcomes. Agencies could use the data to help restore habitat, balance predators and prey, and support Tribal, recreational, and commercial fisheries.
