Create Calumet National Heritage Area

This bill would designate parts of Indiana and Illinois as the Calumet National Heritage Area. The Calumet Heritage Partnership would be the local coordinating entity. The boundary would be the map on page 25 of the Calumet Feasibility Study dated April 14, 2018 (as modified). The local coordinator would have to submit a management plan to the Interior Secretary for approval within 3 years of enactment.

Interior assistance ends after 15 years

This bill would terminate the Interior Secretary's authority to provide assistance under subsection (g)(4) of section 6001 for the Calumet National Heritage Area. That specific authority would end on the date that is 15 years after enactment. Until that date, eligible local projects and groups could still seek that Interior assistance.
