Summary

National Asbestos Awareness Week designates the first week of April 2025 to raise public awareness about asbestos hazards and long-term health risks. The resolution urges the Surgeon General to warn and educate people that asbestos fibers are invisible and can cause cancers such as mesothelioma, notes that symptoms can take 10 to 50 years to appear and that life expectancy after a mesothelioma diagnosis is about 6 to 24 months, acknowledges ongoing asbestos use in some U.S. products and historical exposure sites like naval ships and Libby, Montana, and respectfully requests the Secretary of the Senate transmit a copy of the resolution to the Office of the Surgeon General to help spread the message.
