SRES320119th Congress

A resolution designating July 2025 as "Plastic Pollution Action Month".

Sponsored By: Senator Jeff Merkley

Introduced

Summary

Designates July 2025 as Plastic Pollution Action Month to highlight the threats plastics pose to human health and the environment. The resolution cites large-scale production of plastics (about 460 million tons a year), very low U.S. recycling rates in 2021 (around 4–6 percent), large ocean inputs (more than 12 million tons annually), and microplastics found in human tissues and blood. It encourages all Americans to take responsible actions in July 2025 and year-round to reduce plastic pollution.
