Several named parcels leave city limits on June 30, 2026. In Southport (Brunswick County): 221MB015, 221MB020, 221MB02001. In Yadkinville (Yadkin County): 5816103271, which also leaves the town’s extraterritorial area. In Kannapolis (Cabarrus County): 46928542120000 and 46927593330000. Property in these areas as of January 1, 2026 stops owing city taxes for tax years that start on or after July 1, 2026. Any city tax liens or special assessments from before June 30, 2026 still apply and can be collected or foreclosed.
Sunset Beach cannot use its extraterritorial powers over Brunswick County parcel 2273A155. This change takes effect when the act becomes law and is now in effect. Town development rules and enforcement still apply there for the period set by state law.
The law lets the towns named in state law add noncontiguous satellite areas without counting toward the usual 10% cap. This applies only to the listed towns, including Four Oaks, Yadkinville, Youngsville, and Zebulon. It does not itself annex any property. Any effect on households depends on later town actions.
