When your device insurance can end

An insurer can end an enrolled customer’s coverage right away if you do not pay the premium, you stop service with the vendor, or the policy’s total limit is used up. If the limit is used up, the insurer must notify you within 30 calendar days; if it does not, your coverage continues until notice is given. The insurer can also end coverage for fraud or a material misrepresentation in getting coverage or filing a claim and must tell you and the vendor within 10 days after it discovers it.

30-day notice for device insurance

The law requires at least 30 days’ written notice before an insurer ends a portable electronics policy early. For vendor group policies, each enrolled customer must also get that notice. If any term changes, the insurer must give 30 days’ notice: the policyholder gets a revised policy, and each enrolled customer gets updated proof of coverage that states the change and summarizes the material changes. All notices must be in writing and sent by mail to your last known address or by email, as allowed by state law. The insurer or vendor must keep proof that the notice was sent.
