Bill Overview

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Annual recording and $5 fee for postings

Starting April 30, 2026, if you post land, you must record the posting each year with the town clerk where the land is located. Use the Commissioner’s triplicate form showing approximate acres, the location in town, the posting date, and your signature; the clerk files it and keeps it open to the public. The clerk charges and keeps a $5 recording fee. A recorded posting is valid and enforceable for 365 days from the recording date, and posted-and-recorded land is treated as enclosed land.

Rules for posting private land signs

Starting April 30, 2026, owners or others with exclusive rights can post signs to ban or allow-by-permission hunting, fishing, or trapping on land, private ponds, or propagation farms. "Permission only" signs must show the owner’s name and a way to contact the person who can grant permission. Put signs at each corner and no more than 400 feet apart, keep them readable, and date them each year. Follow the standard sign size and design the Commissioner sets. Accidental mistakes do not void a posting if a reasonable person would see it as a ban, but once you know a sign is off, you must take reasonable steps to fix it.
