More school note providers but 30-day limit

Beginning September 1, 2026, schools accept notes from more types of practitioners for short-term medical absences. This applies when the school board has excused the child for a temporary physical or mental condition and the attendance officer asks for proof. You can get a written note from a physician, physician assistant, psychologist, dentist, chiropractor, optometrist, naturopathic doctor, advanced practice registered nurse, the specific registered nurse named in state law, or a Wisconsin Christian Science practitioner listed in the Christian Science Journal. Each note must state the dates it covers and cannot last longer than 30 days. Longer absences need a new note.
