New staff and funding for forestry inmate crews

Beginning April 1, 2026, the State Forestry Division adds one full‑time job. A second job starts April 1, 2027. The state forester sets the duties, coordinated with the Department of Corrections. The law provides $499,709 from the General Fund for the forestry conservation inmate crew program. The money can pay for the two jobs and for gear, supplies, software, hardware, and telecom. It can only be used for this program. Funding runs from April 1, 2026 through June 30, 2028, and any unused money reverts on June 30, 2028. The Legislature intends the two jobs to be in the agency’s next standard budget. Of the funding, $129,255 is excluded from that next standard budget; the rest, adjusted for 24 months, is included.
