Oil producers get five-year severance tax break

Beginning July 1, 2026, Wyoming exempts the state severance tax on tertiary oil from projects the Oil and Gas Conservation Commission certifies after July 1, 2026 and before July 1, 2031. The break lasts five years for each project, starting on that project’s first tertiary production date. It applies only to the severance tax under W.S. 39-14-204(a)(iii) and only to tertiary production from those certified projects. Agencies report each November 1 from 2026 through 2036 on the production, operators, wells, taxes paid, taxes exempted, and related ad valorem and sales taxes.
