English rule for commercial drivers with penalties

The law requires commercial drivers in Wyoming to show English proficiency. The state uses the federal rule at 49 C.F.R. § 391.11(b)(2) to define “proficient.” If you operate without proving proficiency, you face a $1,000 fine and you are barred from driving a commercial vehicle in the state until you qualify. If you drive while under that ban and are convicted, it is a misdemeanor with another $1,000 fine, up to 90 days in jail, or both. This law is in effect now.

Police enforce English rule for commercial drivers

The Wyoming highway patrol, department‑designated officers, and county or city police enforce the English rule for commercial drivers. These officers can issue citations for violations of W.S. 31‑18‑608. Enforcement is a shared state and local duty across Wyoming.
