New monthly benefit for fallen law enforcement families

If a covered law enforcement member of the state retirement system is killed in the line of duty, the surviving spouse receives a monthly benefit. The amount equals 90% of the member’s monthly salary, plus 6% of that salary for each child under age 18. Benefits are paid every month. The law applies to payments made on or after its effective date.
