Part-time school access and education savings accounts

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, public schools are equally free and open to resident children, including part‑time students. A child can start kindergarten at age 5 by August 1; with an approved request, September 15 applies. Students must be under age 21. You can apply for a state Education Savings Account for an eligible child starting in 2026–2027. Local school board rules still apply. The law takes effect July 1, 2026.

School year requires at least 175 days

School districts must run at least 175 days each year. The state board can approve a different calendar. Before asking for that, the district must hold at least two advertised public meetings. This rule takes effect July 1, 2026.
