Beginning January 1, 2027, real property owned by the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission is exempt from regular property tax. Parcels used for wildlife management or given as employee housing are not exempt. Those parcels pay a special in-lieu tax equal to the ad valorem tax that would apply to similar property valued at fair market value. This replaces regular property tax billing for those parcels but keeps the tax amount the same.
The law does not change any tax assessments or collections made before January 1, 2027. Past bills or payments stay the same. No new back bills or refunds are required for earlier years.
