Grants to keep 911 running

The transportation department can give grants to governing bodies that already run 911 to cover funding gaps. Applicants must show the shortfall, and the department approves amounts it finds are needed to operate the current 911 system. The department must start taking applications by July 1, 2026. The law provides $3.75 million through June 30, 2028—$3.0 million only for these grants and $750,000 only for the study. This money cannot be used for other purposes, and any unspent funds revert on June 30, 2028.

Technical fix to 911 statute

The law adds the new 16-9-113 section to the part of Wyoming’s 911 law that says “this act.” This makes the new grants and study part of the same statute. It does not change who gets money or what you pay.

State study of next-gen 911

The transportation department must study how Wyoming moves to next generation 911. The study reviews governance, daily operations, costs, efficiencies, and funding. The department must report results to the Joint Corporations, Elections and Political Subdivisions Interim Committee by September 1, 2027. The study uses the funds set aside in this law.
