No sales or use tax on family vehicle transfers

Beginning July 1, 2026, you do not pay Wyoming sales or use tax on a motor vehicle you buy, receive as a gift, or lease from an immediate family member. Immediate family includes parents, children, spouses, siblings, stepparents, stepchildren, stepsiblings, grandparents, and grandchildren. The person giving or selling you the vehicle must have paid the required Wyoming sales or use tax when they first bought or received it. The vehicle is treated as an exempt motor vehicle under state law.
