At least 30 days before a promotion selection board meets, the Secretary of the Air Force must send written notice. The notice must give the board’s meeting date and name and date of rank of the most junior and most senior officers in the promotion zone on the notice date. The notice may go to each eligible officer or as one general notice to the Space Force. Any eligible officer (except one excluded under section 20231(d)) may send a written statement to the board about matters they think are important. That statement must arrive no later than 10 calendar days before the board meets, and the board must consider it. A Space Force colonel or brigadier general who gets the notice must tell the Secretary whether they prefer to serve on or off sustained duty if promoted to brigadier general or major general.
