Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle A— - General Military Law › Part PART IV— - SERVICE, SUPPLY, AND PROPERTY › Chapter CHAPTER 141— - MISCELLANEOUS PROVISIONS RELATING TO PROPERTY › § 2387
Contracts that provide working dogs to the Department of Defense must include a requirement that, when a dog’s service ends, it be sent to the 341st Training Squadron for veterinary screening and care under section 2583 so it can be reclassified as a military animal and placed for adoption. A dog’s service ends only after the contracting officer finds its last contract was with the DoD and that no other federal agency can use it because of age, injury, or poor performance. A contract working dog is one hired by the DoD and trained and kenneled by the supplier.
