The Secretary of Defense can give administrative help and pay certain costs for foreign military personnel who are serving with the United Nations Command or the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission under the Korean War Armistice Agreement of 1953. Paying costs is allowed only for those from a developing country who are assigned to the United Nations Command headquarters. The covered costs can include travel and living expenses tied to their duties, personal costs tied to duties, medical care at military facilities, civilian medical care when military care isn’t available and the Secretary agrees and no treaty covers it, and mission travel if it supports U.S. national interests and the United Nations Command commander orders it. The Secretary can provide help with or without being repaid. Definitions: “administrative services and support” means base services like offices, utilities, housing, supplies, transport, training, equipment loans, and repairs. “Covered foreign defense personnel” means foreign military members assigned to the United Nations Command or the Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission. “Developing country” is as defined in section 301(4) of this title. “Neutral Nations Supervisory Commission” means the Sweden and Switzerland delegations (or successors) under the 1953 Armistice. “United Nations Command” means the UNC headquarters, the Military Armistice Commission, UNC‑Rear, and the Honor Guard.
