§6113 Stockpile stewardship criteria

Summary

The Secretary of Energy must create clear, specific rules to decide if the Department of Energy’s science-based tools for checking the safety and reliability of the nuclear weapons stockpile are working well enough to give an adequate degree of certainty that the stockpile is safe and reliable. While making these rules, the Energy Secretary must work with the Secretary of Defense.

(a)The Secretary of Energy shall develop clear and specific criteria for judging whether the science-based tools being used by the Department of Energy for determining the safety and reliability of the nuclear weapons stockpile are performing in a manner that will provide an adequate degree of certainty that the stockpile is safe and reliable.
(b)The Secretary of Energy, in developing the criteria required by subsection (a), shall coordinate with the Secretary of Defense.
