Title 10 › Subtitle Subtitle B— - Army › Part PART III— - TRAINING › Chapter CHAPTER 751— - TRAINING GENERALLY › § 7421
The Commandant of the United States Army War College may give degrees to students who meet the college’s degree rules, if the college’s faculty and dean recommend it and the Secretary of the Army’s rules are followed. A degree can only be given if the Secretary of Education has recommended approval under the Federal Policy Governing Granting of Academic Degrees by Federal Agencies and the War College is accredited by the civilian accrediting body that the Secretary of Education names. When the Army seeks degree authority or changes it, the Secretary of Defense must send the Committees on Armed Services of the Senate and House a copy of the self‑assessment sent to the Department of Education’s National Advisory Committee on Institutional Quality and Integrity, the Secretary of Education’s recommendations and reasons, and any report explaining why an accrediting agency refused to accredit the War College for any new or existing degree.
