Title 11 › Chapter CHAPTER 7— - LIQUIDATION › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - OFFICERS AND ADMINISTRATION › § 701
After a bankruptcy case starts, the United States trustee must quickly pick one neutral person from the panel of private trustees under 28 U.S.C. 586(a)(1), or someone who was the trustee in the case just before the case began, to serve as the interim trustee. If no panel member will serve, the United States trustee may act as the interim trustee. The interim trustee stops serving when the trustee chosen under section 702 qualifies under section 322. While serving, the interim trustee is treated as the trustee in the case.
