Defines the key words used in the chapter. Block machine is the equipment that uses vibration and compaction to make concrete masonry items. Board is the Concrete Masonry Products Board (set up under section 8704). Cavity is the open mold space that makes one unit sized 8 inches by 16 inches. Concrete masonry products is the group of items made on a block machine, including concrete masonry units and hardscape pieces like pavers and retaining wall units, made with dry-cast concrete. Concrete masonry unit is a manmade unit at least 3 inches wide made from dry-cast concrete on a block machine (for example, concrete block). Conflict of interest, for Board members or employees, is when they have a direct or indirect financial or other interest in a person who provides services or enters contracts for anything of economic value. Department and Secretary refer to the Department of Commerce and its Secretary. Dry-cast concrete is a stiff mix of aggregates, cement-like materials, and water that keeps its shape after forming. Education, promotion, and research cover programs to teach, advertise, and study market and product performance. Machine cavities are the cavities a block machine can have; machine cavities in operation are those that made units within the last 6 months and can still produce them. Manufacturer is anyone making commercial concrete masonry products in the United States. Masonry unit is a noncombustible building piece meant to be laid by hand or joined with mortar, grout, bonding, or post-tensioning. Order refers to an order under section 8703. United States means the several States and the District of Columbia.
