§204c Hunting and fishing; general rules and regulations; protection of property; violation of statutes and rules; penalties

Summary

Hunting, killing, wounding, or capturing any wild bird or animal inside the park is not allowed, unless a dangerous animal must be killed to save a person from death or serious injury. Fish may only be taken with a hook and line, and only at seasons, times, and in ways the Secretary of the Interior sets. The Secretary must create and publish rules to manage the park and protect its property, including trees, mineral deposits (except those legally located before August 9, 1916), natural curiosities, and the park’s animals, birds, and fish. Having the dead body or any part of a wild bird or animal in the park is taken as evidence you broke the rule. Anyone who knowingly transports illegally taken wildlife (including stage, express, or railway companies), who breaks the Secretary’s rules, or who damages park property is guilty of a misdemeanor. The penalty can be a fine up to $500, up to six months in jail, or both, and the offender must pay court costs.
