Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XLVI— - SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK AND GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK › § 403h–4
Property used to break the park’s wildlife rules can be taken and kept by the United States. That includes things like guns, traps, nets, fishing gear, horses, or other transport used to illegally kill, trap, or catch animals. Park officers can seize and hold those items while someone is charged. If the person is convicted, the items are taken as an extra penalty on top of other punishment. The Secretary of the Interior will handle and sell or dispose of forfeited items, and any money goes into the Treasury of the United States. For teams, horses, or other transport, the court may decide whether to forfeit them.
