Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 1— - NATIONAL PARKS, MILITARY PARKS, MONUMENTS, AND SEASHORES › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER XLVI— - SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK AND GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK › § 403h–3
Hunting, killing, wounding, or capturing any wild bird or animal inside the park is banned, except you may kill a dangerous animal if needed to protect people from being killed or hurt. Fish may only be taken from park waters by hook and line, and only at the seasons, times, and in the ways the Secretary of the Interior sets. The Secretary must create and publish rules to manage and protect the park, its trees, minerals, natural sights, and all wildlife, and to control fishing. Having the dead body or any part of a wild bird or animal inside the park is treated as proof you broke the law. Anyone, including transport companies, who knows or should know that animals, birds, or fish were taken illegally and accepts them for transport can be guilty. People who break the park rules or damage park property (buildings, fences, signs, trees, plants, crops, springs, minerals, natural features, or similar things) can be charged with a misdemeanor and face a fine up to $500, up to six months in jail, or both, and must pay the costs of the legal proceedings.
