When the commission sends its report, the Secretary of the Interior must buy the land the commission recommends for a national battlefield. If a fair price can't be found, the Secretary may take the land by court action. The Secretary must mark the battlefield and battle lines, put up historical tablets, build paths, plant trees, and care for the grounds, including the Hazen Monument. All related costs must not exceed $100,000.
