Title 16 › Chapter CHAPTER 2— - NATIONAL FORESTS › Subchapter SUBCHAPTER I— - ESTABLISHMENT AND ADMINISTRATION › § 531
Defines two terms used in related rules. "Multiple use" is managing a national forest’s renewable surface resources together so they meet the needs of the people of the United States. It means using land in combinations that can change over time, letting some areas be used for fewer things, and coordinating uses so the land stays productive instead of only chasing the biggest money gain or single product. "Sustained yield of the several products and services" means keeping a high, regular yearly (or periodic) output of those renewable resources forever without harming the land’s ability to produce.
